Sep 4, 2023 ยท The engine coolant temperature sensor is a two-wire sensor that measures the temperature of the engine coolant. One wire carries the 5V reference signal while the other serves as the ground. See also P0117 Code: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Low
Sep 28, 2022 ยท 1. Fill a cup or small container with ice and water. Take a clean cup and fill it with about 6 fluid ounces (180 mL) of clean water and add few ice cubes to bring down the temperature. Wait a few minutes to allow the ice to chill down the water. [5] The cold water will serve as a reference measurement for your sensor.

I would first check visually to see if the wires to this sensor are in good shape, and connected. If they look good I would as standard practice replace this sensor.
Sep 13, 2019 ยท Adding coolant to a radiator dry enough not to trigger the engine temp sensor can cause problems from drastic temperature change. Let it cool down first. Fan Clutch. Like any other clutch, a fan clutch will wear out over time. If everything else seems on the up and up, the springs in the fan clutch have worn past the point of proper function
Nov 15, 2013 ยท JasonH. I agree a modern car shouldn't have a fluctuating temperature gauge. If it does then the thermostat or temperature sensor are faulty. A faulty thermostat will cause the car to take longer to warm up and therefore increase fuel consumption. Running at low temps can clog up the DPF and soot up the EGR etc.
It has one heated wire and one ambient temperature wire. The microprocessor inside the MAF sensor measures the air entering the engine by maintaining the temperature of the hot wire 200ยฐF above the ambient incoming air. The energy required to maintain the sensor at the same temperature is calculated and sent to the powertrain control module
Jan 18, 2013 ยท Blown fuse: The temperature gauge is powered by a fuse, which can blow and cause the gauge to stop working. Check the fuse box for any blown fuses and replace them if necessary. Instrument cluster issues: If the temperature gauge is not the only gauge that is not working, the problem may be with the instrument cluster itself.
